Craig DeThomasis has been a resident of Alachua County since 1976 and has been practicing law in this jurisdiction for over 35 years. During that time he has litigated cases throughout the Eighth Judicial Circuit (which includes the counties of Alachua, Baker, Bradford, Gilchrist, Levy, and Union) in the criminal, traffic, civil, juvenile, dependency, domestic relations and family courts. He has tried more than 100 jury trials in Alachua County Court. 

In addition to providing legal representation to numerous citizens appearing before the Judges of Alachua County, Craig has served as an Adjunct Lecturer and Professor of Law at the University of Florida Levin College of Law for 28 years. He is responsible for training law students in the skills necessary to provide effective representation with a significant focus on the necessary ethics and professionalism required of lawyers. The students he trains become certified by the Florida Supreme Court to practice as Asst. State Attorneys and Asst. Public Defenders in the Alachua County Court.

CRAIG is the ONLY candidate who has been:

  • An Attorney in Alachua County for 35 years (with 31 years in private practice; Craig has represented individuals in the criminal, civil, traffic, family, dependency, domestic violence, juvenile, and diversion courts)

  • A trial attorney with greater than 100 jury trials in the Alachua County Court

  • Teaching Trial Practice for 28 years at University of Florida College of Law

  • Awarded the highest ratings in ethical standards and legal ability by both Florida Bar approved rating services

  • A six year member, three years as chairman, of the Eighth Judicial Circuit Grievance Committee (Responsible for reviewing complaints and conducting investigations of alleged lawyer misconduct.)

  • Called upon to testify as an expert witness in cases of attorney disipline and claims of ineffective assistance of counsel 

  • President of the Justice J.C. Adkins Inn of Court (an organization of lawyers and judges dedicated to instilling the highest level of ethics in the practice of law)
